The Center Smart Industrial Agriculture (CSIA) aims to transform agricultural production in the context of climate change and limited agricultural land through a sustainable and productive approach. Negative environmental impacts should be avoided and a (resource-)efficient management of existing areas should be created.

In cooperation with our member companies, we focus on implementing industrially established processes, methods and tools in order to promote resource-conserving and sustainable cultivation of existing areas with increased productivity in the sense of a circular economy. In soil-based agriculture, resources should be conserved and efficiency increased through the targeted use of sensors and robotics at the same time. In the context of soil-independent production (vertical farming), the focus is on efficient nutrient supply and energy use in addition to saving agricultural land.

As a competence network between research and entrepreneurship, CSIA supports relationships between players from industry, science and politics in the context of agricultural issues. With the technical expertise of RWTH Aachen University, the center strives to jointly develop, test and implement solutions to realize optimization potential.
